YOUTH DIGITAL COUNCIL

Are you a teen with opinions about social media and smartphones? Join the Youth Digital Council (YDC) and help shape research that actually reflects how teens use social media and smartphones every day.

WHAT IS THE YDC?

Youth voices at the center of research

Our research team collects and analyzes behavioral data on teens' digital lives. We study how smartphone and social media use affects adolescent health and wellbeing.

But data alone doesn't tell the whole story. That's where you come in. As a council member, you're not a research subject — you're a collaborator. You'll help ensure our findings are grounded in the real experiences of young people today, bringing the perspective that researchers simply can't get from a dataset.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need research experience?

Nope! We're looking for teens with real-life experience using smartphones and social media. No background in research required.

Is this a research study?

The YDC is an advisory group, NOT a research study. You won't be a research subject, rather you'll be sharing your perspective to help shape how research is done.

What does a typical session look like?

Sessions are virtual group discussions where you'll review research questions, share your thoughts on social media topics, and give feedback on how findings are shared with the public.

Are sessions in person?

No. All sessions are held virtually, so you can join from anywhere.

How long is the commitment?

Members participate in approximately 6 sessions over the course of one year.

Does my parent or guardian need to be involved?

A parent or guardian will need to give permission for you to participate, but sessions are teen-only. We may also reach out to parents with updates throughout the year.
