Soumya Chava

Soumya Chava's path to the Barzi Lab began in dentistry. She earned her bachelor's degree in dentistry from Sibar Institute of Dental Sciences in India, where she also worked as a clinical intern and research assistant, managing data for oral oncology studies and contributing statistical analyses to peer-reviewed manuscripts and international conference presentations. After graduating, she worked as a clinical data analyst, using patient health records to track clinical trends and outcomes. That work sparked an interest in how data can improve care, which led her to pursue an MS in Biomedical Informatics, with a focus on AI and data science, at the University of Utah. During her graduate training, she completed a data automation internship at Flatiron Health, where she standardized clinical data for oncology studies. She then joined University of Utah Health as a Research Analyst, analyzing genomic and clinical data to support pulmonary research. At the Barzi Lab, Soumya [will support the management, integration, and analysis of the lab's large-scale developmental and psychiatric datasets. Outside of work, Soumya enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, trying new foods, and exploring new places.
